Dr. Umucu’s Biography

I am an Assistant Professor of Office of Rehabilitation and Disability Studies, and my research is focused on modifiable risk and protective factors associated with employmentphysical and mental health quality of life, functioning, and psychosocial adjustment in individuals with disabilities and chronic conditions, especially in Veterans with disabilities.

I have a broad research and clinical background in psychology, employment, and rehabilitation with specific training and expertise in employment and psychosocial research, and community-engaged research, and secondary data analysis on biopsychosocial aspects of disabilities and chronic conditions.

As PI, Co-PI, co-Investigator, statistician, and consultant on several university-, foundation, and federal-funded grants, I laid the groundwork for the proposed research by developing effective evidence-based positive psychology interventions to improve employment, quality of life, functioning, and psychosocial adjustment in individuals with disabilities and chronic conditions, and by establishing strong ties with community mental health and rehabilitation agencies that will make it feasible to recruit and track participants over time.

In addition, I successfully administered the projects (e.g. staffing, research protections, budget), collaborated with other researchers, and produced several peer-reviewed publications from each project, as documented in the following publications.  em
